I don't generally send out mass emails on political issues, etc. I figure we all get enough email from the Dems and candidates. But I'm really concerned about California's Proposition 8, which seems to be ahead in the polls. It would feel truly awful to wake up on November 5th and find that the state where I live has voted to deny the legitimacy of my marriage to Constance. It's urgent that we defeat this Proposition, which would amend the California state constitution to deny same sex couples the right to marry.
Here is the text : Shall the California Constitution be changed to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry providing that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California?
Prop 8 is ahead only because they've raised huge sums of money (much from out of state) to buy TV ads to scare and/or anger Californians into voting discrimination into the California constitution. Before the recent deluge of ads, polls predicted that Californians would vote down Prop 8. Now the numbers are running in their favor.
Equality California needs money to make sure TV viewers in California hear our point of view. I've sent $50 to Equality California twice in the last week.
PS: The Equality California site is a little slow this morning -- hopefully that means many people are going online to see their new TV ad and send money.
