Gay people are so damn hypocritical. Usually, when someone uses the term "sexual preference," instead of sexual orientation, we flip the fuck out and start ranting about sexuality being something you're born with. Today, I learned we're ok with people using the term "sexual preference," as long as they are defending it:
Actress Charlize Theron has been honoured for increasing "visibility and understanding" in the gay community.
[...]
"I feel so fortunate that I am in a relationship with a wonderful man," she said on Saturday.
"I find it incredibly unfair that because of our sexual preference, we have the rights that we have, and that, because of someone else's sexual preference, they don't have those same rights."
She's been honored for increasing visibility and understanding? I have to say it folks, that award is so damn gay. I'm guessing she'll be honored with a loyal gay following for the next few years, too. We're so gullible.
I have a question though. Why didn't Kanye West win this award? Rap & hip-hop are infamous for gay bashing. It was very brave of West to take a stand on the issue. How brave is it for a rich white actress to refuse to marry her man until gays are allowed to marry? Not that brave at all, considering Hollywood marriages last about a minute anyway.
I suppose we're all brave in our own way, but I'm a bit annoyed that GLAAD chose Theron instead of West. Is it because Theron's look (white, blonde, beautiful) seems to appeal more to mainstream white America than Kanye West's expletive-laced hip-hop tunes?
