Gay Network Rejects Religious Ad
04.09.06 (12:58 pm)   [edit]
United Church of Christ reports that LOGO, a gay television network, has rejected the UCC's television ad -- an ad that depicts homosexuals being ejected from church.

LOGO is owned by Viacom but operated by MTV. LOGO is a network that supposedly caters to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community; however, it appears the network seems to function more as a marketing depot for gay-friendly companies wanting to target LGBT consumers. Is that really a surprise to anyone?

Recent research on marketing to gays ought to have warned the LGBT community that we would soon be a target for businesses wishing to increase their bottom line. LOGO, with its trendy, generation Y, MTV-like appeal would certainly gross large amounts of gay advertising dollars.

A Viacom-owned network, LOGO is operated by MTV, which states that its standards and practices could not accept the UCC’s 30-second commercial “because of the political nature of its content,” according to a sales associate’s e-mail response on March 30.

When asked for an official reason, MTV Networks responded, "Our guidelines state we will not accept religious advertisements that may be deemed as disparaging to another religion.”

LOGO has a problem accepting ads that appear to backhand various religions; however, it could be argued that LOGO's mere existence backhands all Christians who believe that homosexuality is a sin.
