Q&A With Lesbian Comedienne Vickie Shaw
    08.29.05 (2:11 pm)   [edit]
Vickie Shaw is definitely one of the funniest southerners you'll ever meet. This blonde-haired lipstick lesbian defies all stereotypes -- and tickles your funny bone in the process. A recovering Southern Baptist, Vickie believes her own life provides the best material.

Vickie has headlined at the Michigan Womyn’s Festival, the Dinah & Lina Shore Golf Tournament, Comedy Undergound in Seattle, The Improv in Cleveland, Wall Street in Columbus, The Light Project in Miami and on Olivia Travel cruises.

It was an honor to have an opportunity to ask Vickie a few questions.

ST: I imagine you always made people laugh as a child. Were you the child who always got in trouble in school because you wouldn't keep quiet?

Vickie: Well oddly enough that is exactly correct. The only time I was sent to the principals office was I was telling jokes and someone laughed out loud -- and of course I got sent [to the office]. I did a lot of time with my nose in the corner or in a circle on the blackboard because I wouldn't keep quiet. One of my High School English teachers told me I had diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain! She loved me! Really!

ST: When did you know you wanted to be a comedienne?

Vickie: Secretly I always wanted to but I thought comedians were too smart and I could never be that smart. I didn't try it until I was in my late 30's. I actually did it so I could tell my kids I did something that I always wanted to, never guessing I would make a career of it. I just wanted to say I did it.
