I just received CNN's breaking news report that Senator John McCain has chosen Alaskan moderate Sarah Palin as his running mate. I literally jumped out of my seat. At this point, I don't even care who wins the White House; we're makin' history in 2008! It excites me to know that no matter which way the chips fall, this country will finally have a minority in the White House. I need my children to see this historical event in the making. It should give them hope that we can see change - even if it's completely superficial.
Yes, I know. McCain is going after all the Hillary supporters who only wanted Hillary in the White House because of her gender. If ya ask me, it was a great move on his part. This election will be very interesting to watch.
The latest Beloit College Mindset List has been released. The list helps explain the "mindset" of students across the nation entering their freshman year of college this fall - the class of 2012. I showed several colleagues the new Mindset List and one of them said it reminded her of this Verizon Wireless commercial.
For most first-year college students: electronic filing of tax returns has always been available, WWW has never stood for World Wide Wresting, soft drink refills have always been free, and Coke has always come in a recycled plastic bottle.
The class of 2012 has grown up in an era where computers and rapid communication are the norm, and colleges no longer trumpet the fact that residence halls are "wired" and equipped with the latest hardware. These students will hardly recognize the availability of telephones in their rooms since they have seldom utilized landlines during their adolescence. They will continue to live on their cell phones and communicate via texting. Roommates, few of whom have ever shared a bedroom, have already checked out each other on Facebook where they have shared their most personal thoughts with the whole world.
It is a multicultural, politically correct and "green" generation that has hardly noticed the threats to their privacy and has never feared the Russians and the Warsaw Pact.
My boss put the entire list into perspective for me. He said, "Just wait until you receive your Beloit College alumn magazine and your old classmates' kids are in it." YIKES!
This blog is none of the above. Since I usually blog about politics and I've been thoroughly unexcited by the 2008 election, I've been left with very little to blog about. I will say this though: quite a few liberal bloggers are really, really, really annoying me. The way they're carryin' on with their anti-Obama bullshit makes me believe these so-called liberals are closet racists who are much more forgiving of flip-floppin white boys than they are flip-floppin' Black guys.
I'm much more interested in blogging about workplace challenges and umm, water-cooler chat, but that might get me dooced.
