They're advertised as the first ever lesbian doll. The dolls will remind you of a Ken with breasts. If you hated Barbies and preferred GI Joe, you might enjoy these newDYKEdolls. And if a Ken with breasts isn't enough to persuade you, the accessories might do it: a leather t-back with dildo, a vibrator, and a leather harness with a dildo.
I received an email from Stephanie, DYKEdoll's founder, introducing me to the company, and I responded with:
Ya know, I was very excited to see your product, but my first reaction was the same reaction many women of color had when when reacting to Barbie dolls. WHERE are the dolls that look like us?
Stephanie responded with:
i do hear a lot of "where are the dolls that look like us?" What would that doll look like? I'm a small company so I can custom create dolls. "Badness" was started because I had women of color sending me pics of the next doll they wanted to see. To that end, that doll reflects the community.
Anyway, I'm all ears on this topic . . .
It's easy to complain about DYKEdolls, but I guess there's no easy solution unless I make the damn doll myself.
At any rate, please stop by DYKEdolls and check out the site. Pass it around. Give Steph some props. You can have your very own Bobbie Doll for ony $39.95. Choose from Doc Holiday, Rockabilly, or Diesel Dyke. Baby Dykes are available for less. Oh! There's free shit, too.
Texas University Warns Females Against Posing For Playboy

Those Texans are at it again.
A school official at Baylor University in Waco Texas (big surprise there!) has warned females at the university that they shouldn't associate with Playboy Magazine.
Vice President Samuel Oliversaid "Playboy is clearly antithetical to Baylor's mission and associating with the magazine would be a violation of the code of conduct."
I agree with the female student who wondered if male students who read Playboy received the same threat female students received. I bet they didn't!
For now, Texas has halted Operation Last Call, a controversial sting set up to arrest Texas bar patrons who are drunk -- before they even leave the bar:
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has "temporarily suspended" what it called "Operation Last Call" even though it still believes it was worthwhile, commission spokeswoman Carolyn Beck said on Thursday.
"We understand that everything has room for improvement, this included," she said.
Sometimes it would be nice if people actually thought things through before they got all Bush preemptive strike like. Perhaps Texans just enjoy "ridicule and anger around the world."

What's really going on here? A WaPo article reports that lawmakers in Omaha have split students along a race line into three different school districts:
In a move decried by some as state-sponsored segregation, the Legislature voted yesterday to divide the 45,000-student Omaha school system into three districts -- one that is mostly black, one predominantly white, and one largely Hispanic.
Supporters, including the bill's sponsor and the state Legislature's lone black senator, said the plan would give minorities control over their own school board and ensure that their children are not shortchanged in favor of white youngsters.
I'm not sure why teachers and school officials can't avoid shortchanging non-white students without segregating them into different school districts.
I've always argued that public schools in most of the midwest are segregated, since students attend schools in their own neighborhood; those neighborhoods tend to be separated largely by race. It's a very subtle form of segregation. So, I agree with Senator Ernie Chambers of Omaha -- a Black senator and a vocal supporter of the new bill -- who says, "the district is already segregated, because it no longer buses students and instead requires them to attend their neighborhood school." What I don't agree with is passing a state law that forces parents to group public school students into racial groups because school officials haven't figured out how to treat all students fairly, regardless of race.
For some, it may not be a bad idea to separate students by race. This could help address language barrier issues in the classroom. Hispanic students could attend a school full of Spanish-speaking teachers and students. But, is that really the answer?
And then, there's always the fear that one school district (the "white" one) will receive more state funds than the other two districts. How does the Nebraska legislature plan to address that issue?
Let's not forget this issue:
The most important reason for educational inequality between Blacks and Whites is socioeconomic. Whites tend to have parents with higher levels of education, occupational status, and income than do Blacks. These parental characteristics are associated with White students’ better educational outcomes. Differences in family background consistently account for about one third of the test score gap and for almost all of the inequality in rates of college entry and graduation among Black and White high school graduates.
The past century witnessed improvement in the socioeconomic backgrounds of Blacks as compared with Whites—primarily increases in parents’ years of schooling and decreases in family size. These improvements accounted for much of the convergence in test scores and probably contributed to the achievement of near-parity in high school completion rates as well. And just as Blacks who attended high school in the 1980s and 1990s benefited from their parents’ educational accomplishments, so their children will benefit from the further narrowing of educational inequalities.
Is this one of the issues prompting Omaha to racially segregate its schools? Lower standardized test scores for Black students means a lower average score for the school those students attend. Is Omaha trying to increase one school's average score (the "white" one) by moving Hispanics and Blacks to their own school districts? I'm willing to bet they are.
A few questions: Is Omaha's move a huge step backwards, or is it a leap in the right direction? Will segregated schools result in education equality? And last, is this even legal?
In fact, white Republicans nationally are 25 percentage points more likely on average to vote for the Democratic senatorial candidate when the GOP hopeful is black, says economist Ebonya Washington of Yale University in a forthcoming article in the Quarterly Journal of Economics. White independents are similarly inclined to vote for the white Democrat when there's a black Republican running, according to her study of congressional and gubernatorial voting patterns between 1982 and 2000, including five Senate races in which the Republican nominee was black.
[...]
But racially motivated crossover voting is not just a Republican phenomenon. Democrats also desert their party when its candidate is black, Washington found.
I guess that's bad news for Condi Rice, who claims she has no presidential aspirations. Yeah, right, Condi. You're an ambitious sistah who would love to be president. Perhaps Condi was already aware of white flight and knew she stood a snowball's chance in hell of being president in this country.
More on this later.
Update: 11:15 am
The Carepetbagger Report: ". . . I had naively believed that most of the country was way past allowing race to influence voting patterns so strongly. It's discouraging, to put it mildly."
In 1970 Reverend Andrew Young of Atlanta, Georgia launched a campaign to become
the first Black Southern congressman since Reconstruction. On the day of the general election, 65
percent of White registered voters went to the polls to voice their opinions on this issue.
Statewide, White turnout was only 50 percent. Reverend Young was defeated [Delaney 1970].
Twenty-eight years later in the same state, three Black candidates vied for three separate
statewide offices. Black turnout soared. Blacks comprised 29 percent of those casting ballots that
day, up from 16 percent in the previous interim election. Two of three Black candidates won their
contests [Sack 1998].
The paper goes on to discuss how Black candidates affect voter turnout in a couple of ways. Blacks show up to support the Black candidate; whites show up in opposition.
Apparently, allowing gay-themed events in public libraries will lead to Nazis wanting to have their shit on display in the public library as well. Hey, I'm just tellin' ya what the judge said: "The example illustrates that a judicial determination to force government into endorsing a particular viewpoint would create precedent that could apply to any point of view."
Umm. . . ok. Iffen ya say so.
A group of lesbian and gay students were arrested for protesting on Brigham Young University's (BYU) campus. The students were demanding religious tolernace for gays and lesbians. BYU is a religious school and just wasn't havin' that kinda nonsense.
Kentucky Governor, Ernie Fletcher, has just signed a new bill that protects Kentucky employees in various state agencies. He conveniently deleted gays and lesbians who were once covered under a similar law.
Oh, those Southerners. Ya gotta love 'em ('cuz ya can't shoot 'em -- unless you're Dick Cheney.)
Q Television has decided to run the controversial religious ad that its competitor, LOGO, refused to air. Woot, woot! Let's see what that does to boost Q Television's popularity with the incredibly picky LGBT community.
And speaking of southerners, someone in TN just called me. Yes, that number on my blog is legit. Next time, leave a message.

Gay people are so damn hypocritical. Usually, when someone uses the term "sexual preference," instead of sexual orientation, we flip the fuck out and start ranting about sexuality being something you're born with. Today, I learned we're ok with people using the term "sexual preference," as long as they are defending it:
Actress Charlize Theron has been honoured for increasing "visibility and understanding" in the gay community.
[...]
"I feel so fortunate that I am in a relationship with a wonderful man," she said on Saturday.
"I find it incredibly unfair that because of our sexual preference, we have the rights that we have, and that, because of someone else's sexual preference, they don't have those same rights."
She's been honored for increasing visibility and understanding? I have to say it folks, that award is so damn gay. I'm guessing she'll be honored with a loyal gay following for the next few years, too. We're so gullible.
I have a question though. Why didn't Kanye West win this award? Rap & hip-hop are infamous for gay bashing. It was very brave of West to take a stand on the issue. How brave is it for a rich white actress to refuse to marry her man until gays are allowed to marry? Not that brave at all, considering Hollywood marriages last about a minute anyway.
I suppose we're all brave in our own way, but I'm a bit annoyed that GLAAD chose Theron instead of West. Is it because Theron's look (white, blonde, beautiful) seems to appeal more to mainstream white America than Kanye West's expletive-laced hip-hop tunes?

United Church of Christ reports that LOGO, a gay television network, has rejected the UCC's television ad -- an ad that depicts homosexuals being ejected from church.
LOGO is owned by Viacom but operated by MTV. LOGO is a network that supposedly caters to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community; however, it appears the network seems to function more as a marketing depot for gay-friendly companies wanting to target LGBT consumers. Is that really a surprise to anyone?
Recent research on marketingtogays ought to have warned the LGBT community that we would soon be a target for businesses wishing to increase their bottom line. LOGO, with its trendy, generation Y, MTV-like appeal would certainly gross large amounts of gay advertising dollars.
A Viacom-owned network, LOGO is operated by MTV, which states that its standards and practices could not accept the UCC’s 30-second commercial “because of the political nature of its content,” according to a sales associate’s e-mail response on March 30.
When asked for an official reason, MTV Networks responded, "Our guidelines state we will not accept religious advertisements that may be deemed as disparaging to another religion.”
LOGO has a problem accepting ads that appear to backhand various religions; however, it could be argued that LOGO's mere existence backhands all Christians who believe that homosexuality is a sin.
"If nobody in this House files an ethics charge, I am,” DeLay said in response to a question about McKinney. “Her behavior is outrageous. And it’s not the only time.”
You're kidding, right? Tom DeLay is talking about ethics? That's like a wife-beater complaining about another wife-beater's unethical behavior. Seems to me, if anyone knows anything about repeated unethical behavior, it would be Tom DeLay.
Sidenote: I had a blogger email me and brag about being on the blogroll for Stop the ACLU. LAUGHING.MY.FUCKING.ASS.OFF! Now that's an accomplishment I would brag all day about.

Ya just can't trust anybody.
Mark Klein, a retired AT&T communications tech, claims AT&T allowed the NSA to spy on its customers' phone calls. I haven't used AT&T in years, but I did use MCI and Sprint once upon a time. "Klein said he came forward because he does not believe that the Bush administration is being truthful about the extent of its extrajudicial monitoring of Americans' communications."
If the Bush Administration was spying on Americans -- without a warrant -- I'm sure the GOP's pro-war groupies won't mind that at all. As for the rest of us, we're gonna be pretty worried, not to mention pissed off, to learn the Bush Administration was playin' Big Brother.
Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales already suggested that Bush could "order warrantless wiretaps on telephone calls occurring solely within the United States." Is Gonzales suggesting warrantless wiretaps are in our future, or is he proactively providing a defense for Bush for the time when Americans learn the Bush administration has already been there and done that? I opt for the latter.
Philadelphia Priest Molested Countless Number of Victims

I heard on the news a few days back that Pope John Paul II might be declared a Saint. WTF? Saints don't purposely ignore child molestors just because they happen to be Catholic priests.
A recent AP article reports that 3 more Priests have been defrocked because strong evidence shows they abused young children. One of the priests, Stanley M. Gana, abused so many "that the grand jury could characterize the number only as 'countless.'" Another priest, James E. McGuire, started abusing children as far back as 1966.
I refuse to believe that good ol' Pope Johnny Boy had no idea this was going on. Just the amount of priests who have been named as pedophiles (63 named since September '05) tells me there was enough talk over the years that Johnny Boy had to have known something was up.
If Pope Johnny Boy gets to be a Saint, I wanna be a Saint, too. Hell, a divorced, Black, borderline-Atheist, lesbian mom -- who had her tubes tied at age 22 (the ultimate form of birth control!) -- can't possibly be worse than a Pope who ignored child sex abuse.
None of the 17 priests who have been defrocked will face criminal charges because of the statue of limitations. I have a great idea: Catholics should march in protest and demand that all states change the statue of limitations for child sex abuse. Fat chance, right? Catholics only march to protest things like gay marriage.
President Bush's approval ratings hit a series of new lows in an AP-Ipsos poll that also shows Republicans surrendering their advantage on national security _ grim election-year news for a party struggling to stay in power.
[...]
Just 36 percent of the public approves of Bush's job performance, his lowest-ever rating in AP-Ipsos polling. By contrast, the president's job approval rating was 47 percent among likely voters just before Election Day 2004 and a whopping 64 percent among registered voters in October.
"These numbers are scary. We've lost every advantage we've ever had," GOP pollster Tony Fabrizio said. "The good news is Democrats don't have much of a plan. The bad news is they may not need one."
I might have to disagree here and give the Democrats some props; they do have a plan. Their plan is to just wait for Republicans to self-destruct, then move in for the kill. Of course, it's a rather reactive plan; Democrats are pretty worthless when it comes to being proactive.
Sidenote: here's a great editorial on Bush, our nation's Leaker-in-Chief.

I wasn't going to comment on Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney's run-in with Capitol Police last week, but I keep running into one news article after another about it. Apparently, the situation has escalated to the point where Capital Police have turned the case over to a federal prosecutor. They make it sound like McKinney gave the police officer a thorough beatdown.
Did her race factor into the situation? Police deny that race was an issue; however, I seriously doubt that. McKinney should have exercised better judgement. She wasn't wearing identification; she had a different hairdo; and she's BLACK. She should've known police would make her go through security. Did she honestly think they would recognize her? I'm willing to bet police officers have never really looked her in the face; they simply checked for an ID and let her pass. Guess how many times I used my mother's driver's license to do dirty deeds? A LOT. Because all Black folks look alike. Didn't you know that?
Since 9/11, security has been heightened across the country; people of color ought to know they'll be expected to pass a thorough security check at airports and federal buildings. A whole lotta white folks will be subjected to the same treatment, especially if they look like "white trash" or a Muslim convert -- instead of a respectable, white, American business person.
All I know is the federal government better make an even bigger deal about Homeland Security's pedophile as they are about McKinney. The man did use federal funds and property to solicit sex from children.
Update, 04/07/2006: I'm a bit disappointed with WaPo's editorial on McKinney's hair. The writer becomes a fashion-editor-wanna-be who produces a long and drawn out analysis of Black women and hairstyles Black women wear.
Eminem remarried Kim Mathers less than 3 months ago. In that time, the two have experienced "a breakdown in the marriage relationship to the extent that the objects of matrimony have been destroyed." Translation: honeymoon's over!
This time, Eminem won't be suing for sole custody of their 10 yr old daughter. Aww shit! Just when I thought I'd get to hear more "I hate that bitch" lyrics from the wanna-be rap king.
I received an email from one of the conservative groups that I spy on quite frequently. The organization asserts that marriage is in trouble 'cuz the homos want equal marriage rights. Umm, I'm thinking marriage has been in trouble a long damn time. Ask Eminem and Britney Spears. Oh, and don't forget Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Oh, and don't forget all those divorced Republicans.
MADISON, Wisconsin (Reuters) - With public support for the Iraq war ebbing and President George W. Bush's popularity skidding, voters across Wisconsin approved measures calling for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.
I don't see results for Janesville -- one of the cities Bush visited while campaigning for re-election. Also, I don't see Beloit (my town) mentioned. I'm guessing Janesville voters would have rejected the measure, offering full support for the war in Iraq. Most of the city consists of conservative cronies. As for Beloit, I'm not sure how residents here would have voted. The Beloit Daily Snooze (they can't PAY me to read that paper) is run by conservatives who often push pro-war propoganda.
I find this vote very surprising, since Bush barely lost WI during the 2004 election. Recent election results show Republican power, overall, is slipping in Wisconsin:
Progressive Majority candidates celebrated victories across the state in a variety of local elections. From Racine to Eau Claire and school board to mayor, Progressive Majority candidates ran successful campaigns that focused on one-on-one conversations about the real issues affecting Wisconsin communities. [source: Progressive Majority Candidates Win Big at the Ballot Box (press release)].
Now, let's see how WI voters feel about gay marriage. So far, Feingold supports full and equal rights for homosexuals.

Oh dear lawd. Imagine my surprise (and amusement) when I opened Google News this morning and saw an article about Brian J Doyle, deputy press secretary for Homeland Security. The pervert was online chattin' it up with what he thought was a teenage girl [source: Official chats up child on net].
Doyle found the teenager's profile online and began having sexually explicit conversations with her on the Internet on March 14, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
He sent her pornographic movie clips, as well as non-sexual photos of himself, officials said. One of the photos, released by the sheriff's office, shows Doyle in what appears to be DHS headquarters. He is wearing a Homeland Security pin on his lapel and a lanyard that says "TSA."
Doyle was a bold one. He told the "girl" where he worked AND gave her a phone number to reach him at work. That's the sign of someone who's been doing that kind of thing a long ass time -- and gettin' away with it, too!
Ok, all you child porn aficionados, you're next! You may wanna find a grown-up to play with. At least you don't have to worry about Homeland Security bustin' ya; they're much too busy for that.
I would feel bad for all this trouble the Bush Administration is seeing lately, but I'm just not wired to give a fuck about Bush.
Update:
I just read a post at AlterNet that adds even more fuel to this flame that I expect to erupt into the next big blog topic:
A disgusted Taylor Marsh tells the story of Justin Berry, an underage boy who "had given Bush's Justice Department the names of over 1,500 people who he'd had sexual experiences with over the time he ran his web porn site. To this day, the Bush Justice Department has done NOTHING. That's right, nothing."
Now, is anyone else really bothered by this? Apparently, gay marriage rights light a fire under Bush's scrawny ass much faster than men who use the internet to lure children into sex. Is Bush in cahoots with the Catholic church?
Doyle used his government-issued phone and computer to solicit sex from a child online; however, I certainly don't believe that's proper use of government funds. Where is Margaret Spellings when ya need her? I'm sure she'd agree! If government funds can't be used to promote a cartoon about lesbian moms, those funds certainly can't be used to solicit sex from children. Who's in agreement?
