Mother Tosses Three Children in the Ocean
10.20.05 (7:37 am)   [edit]
Let's see how the press and the good Christians handle this mother:

SAN FRANCISCO — A woman has been arrested following the discovery of a child's body by rescuers who had received a report that a woman had dropped three children off a pier into San Francisco Bay.

Lashaun Harris, 23, of Oakland, was booked on three counts of murder, the San Francisco Chronicle reported in Thursday's editions.

Her children were identified as Trayshaun Harris, 6, Travante Greely, 3, and Joshua Harris, 1.

No mention of God making her do it (yet), so I see very little sympathy in Ms. Harris' future. I do see conversations about unwed mothers, poverty, and the lack of God. Somehow I don't see this mother gettin' a get-out-jail-free-cuz- she's-crazy card.

Update: October 21, 2005

There's the get-out-of-jail-free-card .

Bush's Staged Teleconference, A Load of Texas Manure
10.14.05 (5:54 pm)   [edit]
I had to resurface to comment on Bush's staged teleconference with US troops in Iraq.

[pause]

Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Dear lord, what has the world come to when a president with a 38% approval rating has to stoop to lying about a war. Oh wait, this isn't the first time. What was I thinking?

I'm having fond memories of this staged freak show. If ya can't be a war president, ya might as well make shit up so you can go to war, pretend to succeed, and pretend to be a war president.

I've been super busy at work lately. I love the challenge, but it's taken away from my blogging time. I'll be back -- with a vengeance -- in a couple of days. So much to talk about!

What Kind of Christian Are You Anyway?
10.01.05 (8:20 am)   [edit]
I thought this article 'Shocked' by religious remarks was interesting, especially the discussion on intelligent design:

HARRISBURG--Julie Smith said she was stunned by the question posed by her teenage daughter in late 2004.

Her daughter came home from school and asked her mom why she supports the theory of evolution, saying it was "a lie."

"What kind of Christian are you, anyway?" her daughter asked.

Teachers in public, non-secular schools have no business discussing religion with my children. I'm sure my exhusband would disagree with me (well, he would disagree as long as those teachers are discussing what he believes in and not Buddhism or Catholicism).

I'm at work so I can't really get started on this discussion. I'll be back later to update.

Update: October 1, 4:15pm

A few interesting items on intelligent design (ID):

"The problem at this point is that certain Scientists are not as interested in the How as in the Who, and in doing that they encroach on religious views, but they do it all the while insisting on the purity of Heroic Science. In doing this Science has drifted into areas which it cannot talk about as much as many Scientists claim religious leaders have drifted. " -- Around the Gate, Design and Evolution

"Kottke is right in pointing out that correlation does not equal cause — it's quite possible that social dysfunction begets a belief in God, rather than vice versa. " -- MemeFirst: Which Came First, God or Misery?

"There is only science and anti-science. . . . And those who suggest that anti-science has any role in a science education are not only anti-science, they are also anti-education." -- A Stitch in Haste: The Sandcastles of Intelligent Design

Update: October 1, 7:35pm

"Intelligent design is the idea that life appears too complex to have evolved solely through natural selection and genetic mutation and might have been guided by an intelligent designer." -- Lawsuit over intelligent design moves forward: York Daily Record

Is intelligent design just another way to get creationism and religion taught in public schools?

By the way, talk about being PC! I thought conservatives hated being PC. If Intelligent Design isn't another word for "creationism," then I don't know what is. I mean, who is the intelligent designer if it isn't some resemblance of God?
