Starting the Year Off With Moral Values
01.01.05 (1:40 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Happy New Year, America! What better way to start the New Year at SistersTalk than to annoy my sexually deprived conservative readers who hate it that I continue to discuss sex and hate it even more that I practice Satanic rituals to lure them here time and time again to read about it and make them exhaust their fingers on their keyboards because they have to constantly bitch about the fact that they constantly read my sex posts. These blogs may be more appropriate for the aforementioned bitchy visitors.

I'm rambling (again). Must get that fixed.

I've talked often about female sexuality. Others are just as interested in the change in society's view of female sexuality. Frank Rich wrote an article in the New York Times about public broadcasting's Channel 13 pulling the plug on a movie called Kinsey. The movie starred "Liam Neeson . . . as the pioneering Indiana University sex researcher [Kinsey] who first let Americans know that nonmarital sex is a national pastime, that women have orgasms too and that masturbation and homosexuality do not lead to insanity. . . ."

It's interesting to note that Kinsey's research on sex, gender, and reproduction were published in 1948 (Sexual Behavior in the Human Male) and 1953 (Sexual Behavior in the Human Female). Can you imagine the fools he had to put up with then when he said masturbation and homosexuality wouldn't make ya crazy?

As for the right-wing groups that have targeted the movie (with or without seeing it), they are the usual suspects, many of them determined to recycle false accusations that Kinsey was a pedophile, as if that might somehow make the actual pedophilia scandal in one church go away. But this crowd doesn't just want what's left of Kinsey's scalp. (He died in 1956.) Empowered by that Election Day "moral values" poll result, it is pressing for a whole host of second-term gifts from the Bush administration. . . .

So, Kinsey was called a pedophile, eh? There's that name-calling again. What happened to looney liberal? Instead of addressing Kinsey's research, the GOP's little soldiers just called him a pedophile. It immediately distracts people from his hard work and attempts to discredit him and the legitimacy of his research. Tsk, tsk boys and girls. That's not very nice. Anything to keep the country focused on those moral values.

She Just Ain't Gay Enough These Days
12.30.04 (12:15 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Ok, so I've come up with Ellen DeGeneres' New Year's Resolution. She should resolve to start every show with: "Hi. My name is Ellen DeGeneres and I'm a gawd damn homosexual!"

I've read one too many articles about Ellen that go something like this, "Ellen is great. She inspires millions of homosexuals -- even if she never does mention her sexuality on screen and we never get to hear about how she licks chocha because she's running back in the closet because she's all paranoid and freakin' out about her career and all. But we love you girrrl!" (I paraphrased, of course). Can ya take a guess what gender the author usually is?

Ellen should end every show with, "I'm going home to Portia now -- to get all up in it!" Maybe that will finally shut up some of these whiney ass bitches who can't get over this weird notion that Ellen ain't gay enough these days. Oh wait, they might want pictures.

We're in Gay Hell: Jesus Was a Homo?
12.29.04 (8:40 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Ok, the lesbian bible was supposed to be funny (I think), but even I am having issues with this one:

"And the youth, looking upon him (Jesus), loved him and beseeched that he might remain with him. And going out of the tomb, they went into the house of the youth, for he was rich. And after six days, Jesus instructed him and, at evening, the youth came to him wearing a linen cloth over his naked body. And he remained with him that night, for Jesus taught him the mystery of the Kingdom of God".
    Was Jesus Gay?

This kinda reminds me of the time when you walk in on your parents having sex. You really don't want to see that! I thought Jesus was asexual. Somewhere in my subconscious, I need Jesus to be asexual.

I felt so naughty reading that passage. It's Jesus! If I were Catholic, I'd need a serious beating from a hot nun.

No Ranting Allowed in the New Year
12.29.04 (6:59 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

I'm a Google addict. I was heading there to do my usual news search, but ended up distracted by the Tsunami Relief link on the main page. No preaching from the peanut gallery, I promise. I promise I won't talk about the importance of giving to this worthy cause. I promise.

This is too.damn.funny. Make sure you read the entire page.

I never knew this organization existed: The Pro-Life Alliance of Gays And Lesbians (PLAGAL), but if the Log Cabin Republicans and the The New Black Republicans exist, anything is possible. Silly me! Oh yeah, apparently the Gay Black Republicans (entirely different from The New Black Republicans, but probably should be the same since both groups want to discriminate against homosexuals -- hmm. . . ) bashed the Log Cabin Republicans for not backing Bush's federal marriage amendment. Dear lord, the drama. It's like a bad drag show -- and I missed all of it. How did I get on the subject of gay Republicans anyway? No more ranting: must make that a New Year's resolution.

I found the worst rap video ever a week or so back. It's about Lindsey Lohan and her most noticeable body part. I've been debating whether I should post a link to it. My apprehension: all of you will think I'm some kind of sexist pig who posts degrading videos and cares about nothing more than big breasts. You'll also think I have bad taste in music. If you promise you'll love me in the morning, I'll post the video. If someone else already has a link to the video, you can post it so people will think you are a sexist pig who posts degrading videos and cares about nothing more than big huge breasts.

Hey, We Look Just Like Heterosexuals!
12.29.04 (10:09 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

The cast of "The L Word" -- one of the most popular photos of the week, according to Yahoo!

I haven't seen one episode of the show and when I visit a general lesbian website (that's supposed to be all inclusive) and there's a constant full spread of the L's cast -- complete with a weekly synopsis of the show -- I'm extremely annoyed.

I realize it's the first time the lesbians have had a show to call their own. Gay men have had "Queer as Folk," with the token lesbian couple tossed in there for special effects. We can't forget "Will and Grace" -- the gay man with his cute fag hag, who was suddenly a lesbian, or at least bisexual or curious; or "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" -- did I get that right? I haven't watched any of these shows, I just hear about them on all the gay and lesbian websites. Along came "The L Word" and the lesbians damn near lost their minds. There it was: our lives on the small screen once a week. All the dysfunction and drama one can stand in a week, except those women don't look anything like us.

But it's Hollywood. Soap opera stars rarely look anything like the straight people they attempt to represent. We so eagerly embrace "gay" shows that simulate heterosexual society (while simultaneously bashing Ellen DeGeneres for not being gay enough). But really, almost any show about homosexuals will look just like a show about heterosexuals -- if you turn the volume down to zero. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. What I do know is that picture is really, really hot!

Will Gay Marriage Rights Curtail Use of Uhauls?
12.28.04 (11:43 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

I was looking for the latest on Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. Someone mentioned Ellen and Portia were planning to have a baby. Eeeck! "Already?" I thought, "the Uhaul is barely cold." But with a little more digging I read the stories were most likely false.

This is a good time to discuss Uhauls.

I used to think we (lesbians) had the market cornered on the excessive use of moving vehicles. But I realized I just hang out with a lot of lesbians, and spend a lot of time talking to lesbians and gay men, so of course it would appear that way to me.

I wonder what impact gay marriage would have on the moving vehicle industry. Would lesbians be less inclined to jump into these extremely short "long-term" relationships with marriage looming as a real option? As it stands now, marriage isn't a real option, so bouncing from one home to another doesn't seem like a big deal. It's certainly easy enough. All you have to do is pack up. If gay marriage were a real option, and lesbians jump into marriage on a whim, then 1 year later want to bail, they now have to involve the court and Uhaul to end their relationship and move on to another. It can get expensive and much, much nastier than they could ever imagine.

For too long we've lived haphazardly bouncing from one house to another -- partly because we don't have marriage rights. I read an article written by a conservative christian who said not only should gays and lesbians have the right to marry, we should be encouraged to marry. He believed everyone should be encouraged to practice safe sex within the confines of marriage -- everyone, including homosexuals. I'm not sure I agree with that. Safe sex, yes. Confines of marriage? I believe people should have the right to express their sexuality in whatever way they please as long as it doesn't harm another. But, I do believe a lot of this "1 year in this relationship and 1 year in that relationship" is detrimental to our emotional and psychological health. Just as children need consistency, I think that's something we still need in our adult life.

Learning to choose good partners is something we haven't quite figured out how to do. I think that's a universal problem though, not necessarliy something only us lesbians are terrible at. Heterosexuals have so many resources out there to help them figure it out -- everything from how to choose a date, to how to choose a fiancee, to really bad reality tv shows that help them get married, and lame ass talk shows that help them fix their marriage (apparently those aren't working). Homosexuals have limited resources, and when a gay or lesbian couple that's been together 25 years writes a book and tells us how they made their relationship work . . . we don't buy the book!

I won't be moving in with anyone anytime soon. Santa didn't bring me the woman I asked for.

    Defrocked Lesbian Minister Will Appeal
12.28.04 (7:20 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Rev. Irene Elizabeth Stroud, a Methodist minister in PA who was defrocked after declaring she was in a committed lesbian relationship and living with her partner, has announced she will appeal the ruling.

Stroud was defrocked on December 2, 2004 for violating the church's law against “self-avowed practicing homosexuals” in the clergy. An all-clergy jury voted 12-1 that she was guilty of violating the church's law; and in the penalty phase, jurors voted 7-6 to defrock her.

[Stroud] said one factor in her decision [to appeal the ruling] was something retired Bishop Joseph Yeakel, the judge who presided at her church trial, said to her after the verdict. Yeakel told Stroud “the day will come when the church apologizes for this decision.”
    Lesbian minister will challenge defrocking

The ironic part about this case is: the same Bishop who motivated Stroud to appeal the ruling, barred testimony from six Stroud witnesses who oppose the gay ban. Now, Stroud's appeal will be heard before a panel that covers 12 states and the District of Columbia.

While reading other articles, I was a bit confused by statements like: United Methodist law states that homosexuals may pastor, but since the practice of homosexuality is incompatible to scripture, “self-avowed, practicing homosexuals” are unfit for clergy.

According to the Methodist's Church's own constitution, Stroud's charges were unconstitutional, as was her subsequent defrocking because the church's constitution calls for "an inclusiveness to all people." Bishop Joseph Yeakel stated the trial was no time to discuss the church's constitution.

So, the United Methodist's Book of Discipline states that homosexuals are people of sacred worth, but we're not worthy enough to become ordained ministers. I see . . .

Give These Bastards Honorary Doctorates in Distraction
12.27.04 (1:42 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

More distractions from: dead soldiers, mechanical signatures on condolence letters, a shortage of armored vehicles, a serious lack of planning, a calculated and cold attack on America's taxpaying homosexuals, a serious breech of America's trust, an attack on civil liberties, and a fucked up economy for 3.5 years of the Bush Administration's first term.

Now that Christmas is over, what will the GOP soldiers come up with between now and Easter, when they'll resurrect the whole "missing Jesus" bit -- no pun intended -- in order to distract Americans. Because honestly, those people have perfected the art of distraction. It really should be a discipline -- one you can earn a PhD in: a doctorate in Distractions. Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, and Ann Coulter should all receive honorary doctorates in Distractions.

Texas Trooper Says Homosexual Conduct Illegal
12.27.04 (10:26 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Apparently, Texas isn't missing all its idiots. Officer Michael Carlson, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, has been placed on 6 months probation. He told 2 gay men that kissing at the state capitol was illegal. One of the gay men, John Corvino, a former University of Texas professor (now teaching at Wayne State University) didn't fall for that load of Texas cowboy horseshit. Corvino filed a complaint.

The complaint said the trooper approached him and his male companion while they sat on a park bench. The men responded that they were “just hanging out’’ when Carlson asked what they were doing, the complaint said.

Corvino said he tried to tell Carlson that they were not breaking the law, but he said the trooper told them again that “homosexual conduct is against the law.’’ We won’t have you doing this on Capitol grounds,’’ Carlson told the men, according to the complaint.

Ooo weee! They really don't make 'em that dumb anywhere else, do they? I just wish there was a way to contain them all in a small space. Now, the scarey part: not only is Officer Carlson walking around without knowledge, but he's walking around with a gun.

    Reggie White Dies and . . .
12.26.04 (4:52 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

ESPN Classic reports Reggie White, once defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers, died today due to respiratory failure related to his sleep apnea.

Read the full story at White dies Sunday morning

Coming back to the post. . .

I almost decided to keep my mouth shut about White's anti-gay remarks, but after I made my post I did a quick check of a few popular conservative blogs and noticed the GOP soldiers are already embracing White and holding open the gates of heaven -- as if his anti-gay hatred has earned him a seat next to God. It hasn't. Hatred in any form doesn't earn you a seat next to God. It doesn't even earn you the last seat in the back of the bus to heaven.

I respect the dead. I feel bad for White's family; they have lost someone they all love; however. Yes, HOWEVER. I will not sit by and pretend the man was a saint because he played football and bashed homosexuals. I can guarantee you none of the GOP's soldiers will give a rat's ass for Chelsea Clinton when Bill Clinton or Hillary Clinton kick the bucket.

This handsome stripper and others like him in San Antonio will soon have something they can't take off: a business permit:

The city council on Friday approved a measure requiring strippers to apply for permits and wear them while performing.

The permit -- expected to be half the size of a credit card -- would include the dancer's stage name and a photo.

Now, where would this guy place that permit once he's down to his thong? What authority figure would be expected to check the permit to see if the photo matches the dancer's face?

Teen Sues Over Confederate Flag Prom Dress
12.25.04 (2:07 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

A Kentucky Derby teen sues her former high school because officials banned her from wearing a prom dress made to look like a confederate flag to her senior prom.

Jacqueline Duty is suing Greenup County for violating her First Amendment right to free speech for not allowing her to wear that . . . that . . . gown to her high school prom. Duty says, ""Everyone has their own opinion. But that's not mine," she told reporters outside the courthouse. "I'm proud of where I came from and my background." You go girl!

I support Duty's right to wear the gown to her prom. I fully expect to see Duty wearing a confederate flag wrap as her wedding gown, her wedding party wearing matching attire, and everyone showing up in the Dukes of Hazard car.

Hey, I said she has rights. I never said she had taste.

Update Added 6:45pm: Did anyone notice the name of her attorney? Earl-Ray Neal.

Play Nice or I Take My Marbles and Go Home
12.22.04 (1:53 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

You're either with us or against us. If you're against us, we won't talk to you:

In the past, Bush has said he refused to address the NAACP because of what he perceived as its unfair criticism of his policies, from his decision to invade Iraq to his opposition to many affirmative action programs. In yesterday's meeting, Bush said that he had refused to address the NAACP not because he feared a hostile reception from the group but because he thought such a reception would demean the presidency and embarrass the United States before the world, Mfume said. "That was something that was in his gut," Mfume said.

As leader of the free world, as the person who sets the example for how you mend fences and unite people, as the one person who is supposed to rise above all the negativity, is this acceptable behavior for the President of the United States?

Absolutely not. Adopting a "play nice or I'm taking my marbles and going home" mentality is the most childish thing I've ever seen any leader do. It will work for awhile -- until someone else is in power exercising the same kind of ridiculous control.

Talking to the NAACP wouldn't have been the embarassing part; W's snubbing everyone who doesn't agree with him is the definitive international embarassment! Every newspaper in the world is talking about it. He's like the spoiled, rich brat having a temper tantrum in the middle of Macy's. "Noooo! My way, my way, my way! waaaaaaaah!" Or how about this one? "Mummy, he said something mean about me. Have him banned from the country club."

Dear lord. I need a drink.

Cigars or Illegal Arms, I Just Can't Decide
12.21.04 (8:36 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Sometimes, I forget whose cigar Monica Lewinksi was workin' on -- Bill's or Hillary's. Lots of people try to make Bill and Hillary the same person, so you hate Hillary Clinton and blame her for the Clinton/Lewinski scandal.

While reading Who can lead the Democrats? by Joan Vennochi, I found myself revisiting ancient gripes. One particular comment brought back memories:

The bumper stickers are correct. No one died when Clinton lied. But something was extinguished: respect for the office, the man, his wife, and the truth. It is difficult to imagine red state voters separating Hillary Clinton from the personal immorality of the Clinton presidency.

Vennochi talks as if Americans had their first taste of White House sex scandals during the Clinton Administration. She talks as if Americans had their first taste of White House lies, deceit, and manipulation during the Clinton Administration. We didn't. It's just the first time the masses had immediate, widespread access to the information, in addition to the ability to analyze, dissect, and collectively judge the players. God bless the internet, hallelujah!

These variables make the Clinton scandal appear so much worse than Iran Contra affair during the Reagan Administration -- a scandal I can guarantee no blogger would dare ignore if it happened during a Clinton or Bush term. It seems to me that mixing sex and illegal arms deals (then lying about it) would ruin an American's respect for the White House moreso than an intern on her knees giving the president a blowjob (then lying about it), but of course I'm not a conservative with sexual frustrations and the need to make the Democrats look bad, so I could be completely wrong here. Feel free to correct me if I am.

Another thing that really annoys me about Vennochi's article is the nasty little trick she's playing with Senator Clinton's reputation. By continuing to connect Senator Clinton with Bill Clinton's affair, she is subliminally making Americans continue to think of Senator Clinton whenever they think of the Clinton/Lewinsky affair. Anyone who's ever stood around a water cooler at work and gossiped about a couple who split up because the husband was screwing around has heard at least one person say, "yeah, well I heard the wife was a bitch anyway." That's the effect of Vennochi's constant Senator Clinton/Bill Clinton/Monica Lewinski connection. Desensitize readers so you don't view Senator Clinton as a victim, but as a source of her own problems.

All these people who are pulling this "Clinton destroyed respect for the White House" out their ass are so full of it. They're assuming Americans had some grand respect for the White House to begin with. That's like assuming Americans all respect nature. Last I checked, there was a lot of cigarette butts along the side of highway. The game isn't about respect anyway; it's about power and control -- who has it, who wants it, and who gets to exercise it over others.

    Rumsfeld's Rubber Stamped Signatures
12.19.04 (11:49 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Stars and Stripes reports that Rumsfeld has rubber stamped his signature on condolence letters sent to families of those soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. Some family members report they have received the exact same letter that other family members have received -- complete with the rubber stamped signature.

Illinois resident Bette Sullivan, whose son John was killed in November 2003 while working as an Army mechanic in Iraq, was incensed when she, her son’s wife and her grandchildren received the exact same condolence letter with the apparently stamped signature.

“If each family receives two copies, how many signatures does that amount to?” she asked in an e-mail response to Stripes. “I can understand the use of stamped signatures for his brothers’ mementos, but for those of his wife and children and mother? No, no, no.”

Are the rubber stamp signatures insensitive, or are we finding something else to complain about? Do you support the troops and their familes on this one, or do you support Rumsfeld?

By now I'm sure most people have heard that Ellen Degeneres and Alex Hedison broke up. It certainly didn't get the media attention the Ellen and Anne Heck Heche breakup received. Thank gawd. I couldn't take months of that circus fiasco again. While reading about the Ellen and Alex breakup, I found a story about Ellen's talk show -- great show by the way. The writer said:

What is somewhat disappointing about her show, however, is that she avoids making any statement that could be even vaguely interpreted as “political.” Ellen has always been uncomfortable with the idea of being a gay icon or a political role model, and she has always insisted that she only wants to be a comedian. Unfortunately, celebrities do not always get to choose what they want to be known for, and for better or worse, Ellen will always be identified with her national coming out party in 1997. She may be known as a funny comedian, but she will also always be known as a lesbian.

As a talk show host, Ellen has a lot of power to influence the way Americans think about gays and lesbians. She breaks down stereotypes about lesbians everyday simply by being herself on TV, but it is regretful that she never voices support for any gay rights causes. In the past week, when San Francisco’s decision to issue marriage licenses to gay couples was making headlines across the country and on talk shows everywhere, for example, Ellen did not make even one reference to this historic moment in civil rights.

The first thing that came to mind while reading this article was Mary Cheney. Like Mary Cheney, is Ellen Degeneres obligated to support the LGBT community just because she's (1) popular, (2) influential, and (3) a homosexual? We can push the envelope one step further and ask the same of people like Condi Rice and Colin Powell. Are these people obligated to support the minority groups they belong to? I realize I'm starting to ask difficult questions that will force me to re-evaluate my own opinions about things.

Last night in class, my capstone/thesis advisor said that parents have the ability to influence and that we should not take that ability lightly. He was relating that to how we communicate with people in life and in business. Keeping that in mind, I believe minorities have the least amount of positive and visible influences in politics, business, entertainment, and education. While some may feel Rice and Powell are being most effective and providing the most positive influence by working with the Republican party, I don't agree; however, their highly visible presence in American politics is necessary nonetheless. As for Mary Cheney, dear lord no comment; the world has had enough!

Back to Ellen. I agree when the author states that Ellen has a lot of power to influence. But, I think Ellen has paid her dues. She was the first female actress who appealed to mainstream audiences to ever come out as a homosexual. Her career suffered horrendously because of it and the gay rights movement gained a lot from it. There were so many homosexuals in show business before her who did not make such a bold move. They didn't dare put their careers on the line to speak the truth. Someone has to be first, eh?

Ellen just wants peace now. She just wants to make people laugh and avoid drama. I say she's earned a drama-free life. Let someone else take over for awhile. She's shown us how to do it. Just do it.

HRC Tries To Assure Major Donors
12.17.04 (8:01 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

    December 17, 2004
Submitted by Christian Grantham (hyperlinks added by Genia)

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) sought to quell concerns among their major contributors in a nationwide conference call last night. The hour long call at times presented a business-as-usual approach to the post-election political landscape. But in a Q&A session with interim director Hilary Rosen and others, Federal Club members confronted HRC's post-election message and questioned why a shakeup was necessary if HRC remained on track.

"The issue with Cheryl was not a policy issue, and we're trying to respect her privacy." Rosen told Federal Club members. "So, there shouldn't be any misunderstanding about that. She's a terrific person and did a lot of good here. But she resigned, and we're moving on."

Some Federal Club members continued to press the issue, clearly not satisfied with the lack of answers and cryptic phrasing. The exchanges got particularly heated when a New York Federal Club member accused HRC officials of sounding like the Bush Administration with their answers and asked whether HRC honestly viewed "differences in management philosophies" as a personal matter.

"You know, look, these things happen in an organization, and we're in a transition," Board member Mary Breslauer said. "Were talking about an internal matter here. It wasn't a fit, and both Cheryl and HRC decided to move on."

This and other attempts by HRC to effectively communicate Jacques's departure didn't sit well with some Federal Club members who contribute over a thousand dollars a year to the nation's largest gay and lesbian civil rights organization.

"It sounds to me like something bad happened they don't want to talk about," a Federal Club member later told me on condition of anonymity. "If this is really a personal matter, then they need to say there was a difference in management styles, not management philosophies. Organizational management philosophies are perfectly open for discussion. Personal management styles are not."

Communication problems were a central theme in many concerns raised by Federal Club members on the conference call. When one federal club member asked why HRC didn't present a positive message on the website after the election, Rosen was at a loss for answers. "When you look at our upcoming magazine, you'll see a weather page with lot's of sun and rain clouds. So, it's a balanced message."

Questions also arose around still more confusion created in particular by a New York Times story that suggested HRC plans to support privatizing Social Security. "We are not supporting the president's privatization effort," Rosen emphasized. "What we have to do in this debate is tell our stories to legislators how we are the only people that don't get all the benefits that other Americans get."

How HRC plans to tell those stories to Republicans after taking a position on privatizing Social Security is a concern for some major donors. "I don't know why HRC is even taking a position on Social Security," one Federal Club member told me. "They sound like a bunch of partisan hacks towing the party line on Social Security. What they need to do is focus both sides of the debate on beneficiary issues that affect gay and lesbian families so we're always on the winning side."

Despite the lack of answers and a clear sense of direction, still one Federal Club member asked what more they could do for HRC besides give money. "What we are going to do and want you to do is tell us how you can make a difference in your community," Rosen said." Check the website hrc.org over the next few days for more details."

Red States Love Babies and Divorces
12.16.04 (10:44 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

While surfin' the net, I ran across a certain conservative blogger (she shall remain nameless -- for now anyway) who was commenting on Steve Sailer's observations about how many babies are born to whites in Republican-voting states (you know, the whole red/blue divide). Steve Sailer said:

. . . voters are picking their parties based on differing approaches to the most fundamentally important human activity: having babies. The white people in Republican-voting regions consistently have more children than the white people in Democratic-voting regions. The more kids whites have, the more pro-Bush they get.

Baby Gap: How birthrates color the electoral map

The nameless-commentin-blogge r, said "That white people in pro-Bush states have more babies on average isn’t new information, is it? While most of us intuit this, we don’t talk about it. It’s almost as taboo as illegitimacy." I had to read that statement twice. Oh yeah, they have lots of babies. Shhh. Don't talk about it. And Oh yeah, there's a lot of illegitimacy among white folks. Shhh, don't talk about it. Yep, that was the mindset in my extremely conservative ex in-laws' family. There were a lot of things ya didn't talk about -- for fear that you would look bad to the neighbors. Or, if you pretend it doesn't exist in your group, you can point fingers and be as judgemental as you want with other groups.

So anyway, what did the nameless-blogger not say? Let's see:

If blue states care less about moral values, why are divorce rates so low in the bluest of the blue states? It's a question that intrigues conservatives, as much as it emboldens liberals.

As researchers have noted, the areas of the country where divorce rates are highest are also often the areas where many conservative Christians live.
More divorce in red states: Kentucky and Bible Belt among highest of all

So let's put these two together folks, shall we?

We have a whole lotta conservative, Christian, white folks gettin' married, havin' lots of babies . . . then what? Divorce court. Broken homes. Jerry Springer. Or Oprah, you pick. And Conservative Christians runnin' around with broken homes tellin' the rest of the world that only heterosexuals should be allowed to marry, have kids (lots of them, apparently), then bust up the family.

Of course, I probably didn't need to tell any of you this. I'm sure you already knew this. You just don't talk about it.

Women & Porn, Say It Ain't So!

I was talking to my grandma again (holiday chat, blah, blah, blah, ya know?) and she asked me if I would ever marry again. I replied with, "Not unless this country allows women to marry each other." She said, "Where do you girls get that from?" By that comment, I guess she meant where did we (I have an aunt and several female cousins who are gay) get the homosexual thing from because she immediately asked, "Do you watch that porno stuff?" Ha! I love that woman. So straight forward she is. There was something in her voice that made me just laugh and laugh. When I composed myself I told her I did watch porno, but that's not where I got the homosexual thing from. THEN, she seemed more upset that I watched porno than she was that I was a homosexual. "It ain't lady-like," she said.

Ain't lady-like? Where did she get that from? I venture to guess a whole lot of women watch pornography -- with or without a male around eggin' them on. Once, for a Christmas present, a dear friend of mine sent me the worst lesbian porn I've ever seen in all my days. I'm guessing it was a gag gift. I sure hope it was, or I'm really offended.

Quick question for those of you who watch porn: why do the women spit on it? That's so nasty! I can't watch that, I have to turn it off.

And that's your sex entry for the month, folks! Check the mini sex blog in the right sidebar for regular sex and sexuality posts.

    The Liberal Loonies

We ask, "where are the weapons?" They reply: "You loony liberal!"

We ask, "where's the armor for the humvees?" They reply: "You lefties and your conspiracy theories."

We ask, "Umm, I thought you said Iraq was connected to 9/11?" They reply: "That's another leftie myth!"

We ask, "Why aren't we pursuing bin Laden if we were so concerned pre-election about more terrorist attacks?" They reply: "You lefties are always looking for trouble."

The canned responses to legitimate questions is really becoming quite a bore; however, the GOP trains its soldiers well and they do a fine job of sticking to the script. They always have. It works well for them. Very well. For now.

And then you have the liberals and progressives, who by sheer definition, can't seem to even decide on one clear agenda. It's definitely a pain in the ass at times. Eventually, we do pull it together and there are great moments in history to prove that statement. The United States has a long history of ignorance, self-righteousness, and conservatism running rampant in large numbers. And if you view that history even closer, you'll see several major political/social movements that have knocked those self-righteous conservatives on their asses -- starting with the move to end slavery, moving to Black men gaining the right to vote, moving to women gaining the right to vote, moving to the Women's movement, moving to the Civil Rights movement, and . . . what's next? I can't wait to see what's next.

I read conservative blogs and they always say something to the effect of, "yeah, liberal loonies, keeping ranting. You're just paving the way for our success in 2008." They're so certain they'll have success in 2008. Will they? Let's review.

Both John Kerry and George Bush received more votes than any presidential candidates in history. The Bush camp knew the Democrats were working hard to register new voters and get them to the polls. The Bush camp also knew the Democrats appealed to the undecideds. Both candidates mobilized a record number of voters for election 2004. Both candidates had to work very hard this election year and neither candidate was assured a clear victory -- regardless of what the Republicans and their GOP soldiers may think.

So, will the Republicans really see a victory in 2008? That will depend on a lot of things, but the Republicans will not win just because they are Republicans with huge egos and a knack for constantly repeating the phrase "loony liberal." They should know better than to ASSume such things.

History repeats itself. Always does. I'm not sure if some of these GOP soldiers realize that. As we become a more globalized world, seeing more and more blended cultures, the GOP's little soldiers may fall over from massive heart attacks as they watch the United States move away from its precious conservatism. And no matter how much we try, we cannot travel the world and force the conservative version of American culture on everyone so that globalization is easier for us to bear.

When I read that a Chinese company bought out IBM's PC division, I wondered what one of my old colleagues would think of that. He hates China. Two years ago, the Japanese developed the world's fastest computer. If Wal-Mart were a country, it could be China's eighth largest trading partner. Change is comin' folks, and the proud, patriotic Americans probably don't see it comin'. Me, I'm just watchin' from the corner 'cuz I know the GOP's little soldiers have so many bigger things to worry about than us "loony liberals."

    The Lesbian Bible

    Received in email from Dawn:

In classic Onion style, Weekly World News presents:

    the lesbian bible

I should purchase a few hundred copies and leave a box of them on the steps of those churches that keep leaving anti-homosexual "Christian" literature on my car. See how they like that!

Instead of Jesus, The Lesbian Bible features Justine, the daughter of God, who tells her twelve hot female disciples, "Let she who is without sin leave now, for it is far more fun to be around sinners. Now remove your clothing and let me closely inspect the divine images in which God made you." What follows is the first appearance of an X-rated jacuzzi scene in any Bible.

Carp reveals that her publishing company is also at work on lesbian versions of the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Dr. Seuss books.

"That's just wrong," as my kids would say. Thanks for the tip, Dawn!

How is Value Assigned to Human Life?
12.12.04 (3:55 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

One of my visitors brought this up (I apologize for not linking to the comment, I can't remember where I saw it) and I've seen this theme developing on several liberal, progressive, and conservative blogs over the past couple of days.

Abortion. Pro-Lifers are against abortion because they view it as murder -- essentially the ending of a human life.

Now, I think it's safe to state that many Pro-Lifers are of the conservative strand. I think it's even safer to state that many conservatives tend to support the war in Iraq. Call me crazy, but I think it's really safe to state that war ends human life.

Examining the Pro-Life argument and measuring it against their support for the Iraq war, explain to me what's going on here. Do Pro-Lifers really care about protecting human life? And if they do care about protecting human life, how do they go about assigning value to a particular human life?

This isn't a debate about when life begins, or why women have abortions. Can we try to stay on topic? We can even take this debate one step further and discuss the conservative view of the death penalty -- something they tend to vehemently support.

    Thousands March Against Gay Marriage
12.12.04 (12:39 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

Heading a religious protest against gay marriage, Bernice King, Dr. Martin Luther King's daughter, marched with thousands of African Americans to proclaim that marriage should be defined as a union between one man and one woman.

The church's website called the march a rally for traditional marriage and proclaims marriage between one man and one woman must be protected.

Long has called for a national ban on same-sex marriage.

Standing with him at the King Center was Bernice King, one of King's daughters who is an elder in Long's church.

Bernice King lit a torch at her father's grave and passed it on to Long, who carried it through the march.

"I believe this day will go down in the history books as the greatest showing of Christ and His kingdom in this century," she said, calling Long and her father prophets.

    Thousands March Against Gay Marriage

Coretta Scott King, Dr. King's wife, has said on many occassions that Dr. King would have supported gay marriage. I suppose the daughter would know more than the wife, eh? This looks more like a church that wants some publicity -- particularly since this church, supposedly one of the largest Black churches in the country -- never issued a statement about gay marriage until the UCC's commercial aired and all the controversy surrounding the UCC started. Why wait until now to march?

No publicity is bad publicity, and from what I remember about the southern Black Baptist churches I attended, church is a business. The collection plate is passed around at least twice during the sermon. When I was a kid, we would take 4 ones to church --- placing 2 ones in the plate the first time, and 2 ones in the plate the second time. My mama used to bitch and bitch about the pastor's nice car (and his womanizing ways). But, we went to church every Sunday and showed the pastor respect anyway. I hated that.

Anyone ever watched a comedy where they make fun of southern Black Baptist churches? Too funny! I have to laugh at this kind of stuff these days.

Does anyone remember the mother who killed her 2 sons 'cuz God supposedly told her to do it? That mother was acquitted. Yep. Acquitted. Well, a college student in TN will attempt to dodge the law with the same excuse.

Philip Badowski shot both his parents to death, then tried to dismember the bodies. Why? There was apparently an argument between Philip and his parents after he had some friends over while they were away in Haiti on a volunteer mission. When questioned about his motive, Philip said God told me to.

So, we shall see how many people can get away with murder by simply saying "God made me do it."

    The Progressives Have HiJacked Jesus
12.10.04 (11:31 am) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

As far back as I can remember, those who are consciously aware that there are Americans who are something other than Christian have been using the words "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" during this time of year. I celebrate Christmas. Always have. I'm not offended by the words "Happy Holidays" in a Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target, or Macy's. People like Bill O'Reilly believe Christmas is under siege, that those of us who use the words "Happy Holidays" are trying to remove all signs of Jesus from Christmas.

Let's face it, Jesus has been almost effectively removed from Christmas. Jesus didn't tell any of us to rack up enormous credit card debt every year buying expensive Christmas gifts. Jesus didn't tell any of us to break out the fine china and host fancy dinner parties every holiday. Jesus certainly didn't tell any of us to purchase new jewelry pieces every Christmas so we can show off to our friends at work how much our husbands love us. Give me a break. Jesus didn't tell any of us to fight for parking spaces and flip off the guy in the car next to us in the Wal-Mart parking lot. And I really don't think Jesus would be happy about how rude we are to retail workers during the holiday season either. Jesus has been gone from Christmas a long time and it certainly didn't take the "secular progressives" and our "Happy Holidays" to make that happen.

This, dear people, is called a distraction. We're all pretty familiar with those by now aren't we? A distraction from how materialistic most of us become this time of year -- conservatives included. The only time most people concern themselves with Jesus during the holidays is that obligatory church service we attend on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day (you know the one, probably only the 2nd or 3rd church service a whole lot of people attend all year long -- conservatives included).

So spare me this "the progressives have hijacked Jesus from Christmas" bullshit. The Bill O'Reillys of the world are just looking for something to waste airtime during the holidays.

Don Sneed Gay Domination of Domestic AIDS Dollars Causes Deaths and Suffering Among Nation's Blacks

DALLAS -- December 9, 2004 -- /Xpress Press/ -- After receiving notice that his appointment to the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS had been rescinded, Don Sneed, the controversial Black grassroots Republican community activist, AIDS expert and Executive Producer of the DVD, "The Emancipation of the Homosexual -- The End of the Gay and Lesbian Rights Movement," released the following letter to Brent Minor, Chairman of the Treatment and Care Committee of PACHA (Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS).

    Brent:

You may not have, as of yet, been informed that as of December 6, 2004, I am no longer a member of PACHA. Having been appointed by Secretary Thompson, and with his moving on, I have received notice that my appointment has been rescinded and my input and advice no longer required.

Brent, I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to yourself, the members of PACHA, the staff of HHS that has been so helpful to us all and this Administration that has certainly lived up to the Creed "that all men are created equal" as evidenced by the President's Global AIDS Initiative.

As a Black grassroots Republican activist, my hands are becoming quite full as we continue to beat back the scourge of "marriage for gays" which would have a most detrimental effect on the Black family should it come to pass.

Family-oriented, God-loving, Black, conservative grassroots Republicans are presently organizing to end the stranglehold that the "Homosexual Power Elite," via AIDS Action, HRC and other homosexual organizations presently maintain on the domestic AIDS relief budget. As I have expressed, on the record, that in my opinion, experience and knowledge, this stranglehold has led to unnecessary deaths and suffering of Black Americans from the AIDS virus. My continued service on PACHA will never fix this.

May all of you have God's blessings and allow ourselves to be guided not only by "science" but also that precious indomitable spirit that dwells within each of us that "science" neither created, understands or appreciates but without which "science," you, I, nor anything else, can exist.

Republicans' Version of the Higher Education Act
12.08.04 (8:04 pm) posted by Genia vote for me on digg and reddit

The latest brilliant idea from Republicans is to tie college funding to graduation rates among various groups:

A key example of the Republicans’ punitive approach is their proposal to tie federal aid to colleges’ graduation rates. Those schools whose students took the longest to attain their degree would face cuts in federal funding. This would be sure to hurt public institutions, since graduation rates are lowest among the students that they serve: those who are low-income, older, working, students of color, and the first in their family to go to college.

If Republicans are able to pass their version of the Higher Education Act, we will see many students of various socieconomic backgrounds adversely affected. From what I remember, students who start college with no sense of direction tend to change majors at least 3 times before graduation. This is only one factor contributing to their extended college career. The continued rise in the cost of a college education causes many students to take semesters off so they can work and save money -- returning to college at a later time. Why should those students be penalized for that decision and lose funding just because it will now take them longer to graduate?

Many colleges and universities are seeing approximately 60% of their student body obtain their degree in 6 years, with only 30% receiving their degree within 4 years. The other 10% are receiving their degree after the 6 year mark -- if at all.

The system might be fair if Republicans were looking at schools with the least amount of college graduates; however, Republicans are judging schools based on how long it takes the institutions' students to graduate. It would be difficult, but possible, to setup a system that measured all public universities against various standards. From these standards, one could award institutions with the most amount of college graduates within a certain timeframe the most amount of federal funding. Institutions would be placed in tiers according to the amount of college graduates each institution had within a certain timeframe, with the best schools in the top tiers. Of course the top tier schools would receive the most funding. This system would be most advantageous in that it would encourage fierce competition among public institutions. Using a standard other than the amount of time it takes to graduate seems like a much fairer system.

Honestly, the Republicans' version of the Higher Education Act doesn't surprise me. If it made an ounce of sense, that would surprise me. I shouldn't say that. It makes perfect sense if the goal is to maintain power and wealth in certain classes. The less college funding you give to people (like Blacks, Hispanics, women, lower-classes, and other minority groups) the more power the white male can maintain.

Since Republicans have effectively changed the way top public universaties (universities with great graduation rates) and colleges dispurse funding to minority students -- with their numerous changes to Affirmative Action -- the only thing left to do now is cut funding to the cheaper public universities (universities with poorer graduation rates) where minority students have fled. It's a brilliant plan really -- a plan that's so see-through eve
